Life and Lithiumin: Green Revolution or Green Impacts?

By Ray Grosser

In Nevada, on a site that is sacred to Indigenous people, pristine habitats home to Lahontan cutthroat trout and pronghorn antelope face drastic challenges. In this animated explainer by Ray Grosser, follow a timeline showing how President Biden’s ambitious goal for half of all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030 ignited a “white gold rush,” putting at risk places such as Thacker Pass, and Rhyolite Ridge, home to the rare Tiehm’s buckwheat.

Ray Grosser is a Master’s student with the media innovation program at the Reynolds School of Journalism and a graduate assistant for the Hitchcock Project for Visualizing Science. Ray produced this story for RSJ’s motion graphics class during spring 2024, taught by Luka Starmer.
